A 42-year-old cab mechanic, Ashok Paswan has been allegedly murdered today midnight at Chetla’s 17 no bus stand, right in the heart of Kolkata Municipal Corporation Mayor Firhad Hakim’s own ward. Eyewitnesses claims the fatal attack erupted during a drunken argument; a person allegedly plunged a crowbar into Paswan’s body. Bleeding profusely, the victim runs nearly 100 metres before collapsing. Rushed to SSKM Hospital, he was declared dead on arrival.
Locals states that such liquor-fueled gatherings turn the area into a lawless zone every night, with outsiders dominating the areq and locals too scared to intervene in these matters. Residents told police that protests against the nightly drinking dens often leads to beatings and clash. As per latest update, two arrested, Surojit Mondal alias Bapi and Tapas Paul, Kolkata police have registered an FIR against five people.
The murder has reignited demands for stricter patrolling where civic apathy and anti-social elements allegedly thrive unchecked. CCTV footage is being examined, but darkness and poor street lighting may hamper the probe. The incident exposes a lethal crime in an otherwise bustling south Kolkata neighbourhood.
